An Improved Algorithm for Noise Reduction in Hearing Aids
نویسندگان
چکیده
The noise reduction algorithm is a vital algorithm in hearing aids. To improve performances, an improved algorithm is proposed. For the basic perception filter, the masking tone will be audible after filtering. To solve this problem, one weighted perception filter algorithm for the simulation of the auditory mechanism is designed. Based on the basic perception filter, the priori SNR is firstly estimated by the direct decision method and then revised by the optimal smoothing factor method. The optimal value is obtained based on minimum mean square error criterion, and the gain of weighted perception filter is computed. Experiment results show that the proposed method can effectively eliminate the residual noise, reduce the interference, and improve the speech comprehension of hearing-impaired patients under the noisy environment.

Comparison of adaptive noise reduction algorithms in dual microphone hearing aids q
In this paper, a physical and perceptual evaluation of two adaptive noise reduction algorithms for dual-microphone hearing aids are described. This is the first comparison between a fixed directional microphone on the one hand, and an adaptive directional microphone and an adaptive beamformer on the other hand, all implemented in the same digital hearing aid. The adaptive directional microphone...
متن کاملMulti-channel algorithms for wind noise reduction and signal compensation in binaural hearing aids
This paper contains a new approach for wind noise reduction in binaural hearing aids. This approach combines the ”single-channel low frequency reduction” algorithm [1] and the ”two-channel correlation detector” [2] with a multi-channel binaural hearing aid to compensate the desired signal. The algorithm benefits from the fact that if wind comes from one side, the wind noise mostly occurs in the...
متن کاملEffects of Noise Reduction on Speech Intelligibility, Perceived Listening Effort, and Personal Preference in Hearing-Impaired Listeners
This study evaluates the perceptual effects of single-microphone noise reduction in hearing aids. Twenty subjects with moderate sensorineural hearing loss listened to speech in babble noise processed via noise reduction from three different linearly fitted hearing aids. Subjects performed (a) speech-intelligibility tests, (b) listening-effort ratings, and (c) paired-comparison ratings on noise ...
متن کاملReal-time multiband dynamic compression and noise reduction for binaural hearing aids.
A multi-signal-processor set-up is introduced that is used for real-time implementation of digital hearing aid algorithms that operate on stereophonic (i.e., binaural) input signals and perform signal processing in the frequency domain. A multiband dynamic compression algorithm was implemented which operates in 24 critical band filter channels, allows for interaction between frequency bands and...
متن کاملAbout Cognitive Outcome Measures at Ecological Signal-to-Noise Ratios and Cognitive-Driven Hearing Aid Signal Processing.
PURPOSE The purpose of this article is to discuss 2 questions concerning how hearing aids interact with hearing and cognition: Can signal processing in hearing aids improve memory? Can attention be used for top-down control of hearing aids? METHOD Memory recall of sentences, presented at 95% correct speech recognition, was assessed with and without binary mask noise reduction. A short literat...
